The credit for the portfolio name goes to GPT-4o! I asked it to expand the initials VADA into something fun and related to markets and this is what it gave
Purpose
For posterity, I want to preserve a verifiable account of investing track record, whether it be a success or failure. There is too much noise out there with lots of strong opinions on companies, investing styles, trends and pretty much everything but almost no one has a verifiable record of their performance in the markets (especially those trying to sell you something!)
I hope, in five years, this post either provides the “walk the walk” part whenever I post an opinion on anything related to markets (in case of success) or provides a valuable journal of mistakes from which I can learn from (in case of failure).
Caveat
I am primarily a passive investor who believes that the majority of one’s net worth (probably 90%+) should be in broad market diversified instruments that are liquid.
With this portfolio, I hope to take some money that I can afford to risk and chase high returns. Hence, I expect assets in the portfolio to either be big winners or big losers with not much in between and hope the winners exceed the losers.
Philosophy & Goals
I do not have any specific philosophy or goals, such as an XIRR target. My only guideline for now is to maintain a very concentrated portfolio (max 10 companies, hopefully can keep it around 5 companies).
I believe this is necessary for excess returns (with the tradeoff of higher risk) and also one cannot (or at least I cannot) track more than 10 companies at a time without seeing a degradation in quality of analyses.
The Portfolio
With that out of the way, here is the current portfolio at the end of Feb.
Yes, there is only two stocks so far. I’ve been exploring actively investing in the Indian stock market for only about 4-5 months now so far and with the elevated valuations, I haven’t been able to find much value.
Below are links to relevant posts I’ve made on Valuepickr which outlines my understanding of the business, growth factors, valuation etc
- ACME Solar - ACME Solar Holdings
- Zaggle - Zaggle_A platform to address pain points for enterprises - #93 by vada_buffet, Zaggle_A platform to address pain points for enterprises - #168 by vada_buffet (There are also a few other posts sprinkled in the Zaggle thread on my understanding of the business)
That’s it for now, will update the portfolio in April now!
