Om…which Hy ICE engine prototypes are out ?
I see above ashok leyland’s concept but i would wish to see a news where actual truck is being pulled by Hy ICE or atleast a prototype or PoC (proof of concept)…the same goes for Reliance…even tatas set up R&D for Hy ICE.
So which are the engine prototypes other than JCB engine ?..if you’ve came across any news

Let say this might have been written by A Petrolhead out of a love for gasoline engine…but i would always love to identify,how much traction Hy ICE engine has gained in india, How far the idea progressed on the ground rather than on paper ?

any indication how much bottled green hydrogen costs at consumer end/ or the electrolysis facility itself(cost of production) ?

Current costs are roughly $3.5-5/kg for Green, $1.5-2.5 for Grey and $0.75-1 for Black/Regular hydrogen.

There are 3 Auto india companies those are actively gearing up to produce hydrogen trucks and buses.

  1. Tata for both ICE & Fuel cell
  2. Adok Leyland both ICE & Fuel cell in collaboration with Reliance - Trucks are under road trial… They are aiming to retrofit 5000 trucks Hy ICE this year l
  3. Volvo Eicher - fuel cell.

Good compilation in deed-it is quite comprehensive displayed in simple Matrix.

What I find an important link is missing. Ultimately, Green hydrogen is supposed to be the raw material fo for generation of Electricity for feeding to Power Grid through an important device called Fuel Cell which would convert Green hydrogen directly to Electricity with water as a bye product.

Again talking about Green hydrogen for electricity Power Grid, Currently, because Fuel Cells are expensive to import and indigenous technology is still being developed, so we are talking of Renewable energy storage solutions. such as battery , Pumped hydro storage where the renewable energy generated is directly stored and used 24×7 depending upon peaks and valleys of power demand and here thete is no need of producing Green hydrogen by electrolyser.

However, all the current storage devices for renewable energy have their own limitation, and finally Fuel cell is the ultimate goal which could finally replace the pumped hydro storage and battery and other such storage solutions.

No GH2 cannot be raw material for energy production. At least as per my limited understanding.

Fuel Cells and alternate transport fuel to EV and fossil fuel is primary reason. Also, it is to build an alternative resource for ammonia, and feedstock into Steel Cement and Other Chemical Industries.

Why to go the longer route of green hydrogen generating electricity when you can directly get electricity from renewable source?

Because all form of energy conversion will have losses within the process. Please share the context.

The only technical issue that still not solved completely yet in electrical supply chain was storage ( in terms of economies of scale), The main issue is consumption and generation happen at different times, So people believe hydrogen will be the storage as well as source for generation.

I think we have already discussed in this thread the subject of Electricity generation from Green hydrogen through electrolysis and then Green hydrogen as inputs for fuel.cell to generate power and thereafter leading to grid connectivity.
Pilot projects are already running in several places in the world including India.

What would be cost of this setup. Use Electricity to geneate hydrogen which then is used to generate electricity. Maybe as grid stabalizer is fine or for Off Grid .

yes you have got it right. An article written by sn expert on the subject.

The problem with renewable energy storage is
(1) Batteries for grid scale application becomes bulky and maintenance cost /recurrent replacement cost is high
(2) Pumped hydro storage system can not be built everywhere. It requires two large storage reservoirs - one at higher elevation and the other at lower level. You can not get every where. Hilly area , perhaps more suitable.

So , now perhaps the future lies in Solar wind energy to Green hydrogen via electrolyser and then Green hydrogen to Electricity generation via fuel cell. Grid stability is ensured.
Currently the cost is higher , but as technology for fuel cell evolves, cost should come down. electrolyser - fuel cell- Grid is an established technology…is the ultimate for power generation.
