Why is RIL acquiring the startups through reliance retail?
Which start up are you referring?
If you referring to Robotics start up which they acquired today, perhaps it meant for retail warehousing. Because , this Robotics start up known as Addverb Technology is specialised in retail warehousing !
It has capacity to manufacture 10,000 Robo’s in a year.
Post Covid scenario and as a part of Automation process, Robotics would go a long way in minimising man power. May be they would deploy in their retail ware house and manufacturing plants and rest can be sold in open market.
The investments in dunzo, netmeds, urban ladder, all the acquisitions are happening through reliance retail only.
Are not these relevant to Retail business ?
I am not sure if there is any other implication!
It is a major buy of 54% stake @ 983 crore in Addverb Robotics.
Addverb has developed highly automated warehouses for RIL, Flipkart, HUL, Asian Paints, Coca-Cola, Pepsi, ITC, and Marico. With this investment, RIL will hold around 54 per cent stake in Addverb, becoming a strategic partner.

RIL sets its drone biz plan in motion, looks to become a key player
The drone business is being carried out through a Bangalore-based start up, Asteria Aerospace, in which Reliance has taken a majority stake. Asteria is a subsidiary of Jio Platforms Ltd
It is an outdated, abundant technology! sodium battery cannot be used in EV due to very low energy density, Maybe useful for home storage. I think the hype is due to the Faradion takeover for GBP100 million, anyway the investment is peanut for no use… all major Sodium based research players are already bankrupt or switched to Lithium.
In my view, Sodium Ion battery is expected to be successful ultimately when the whole world is working towards it as a viable alternative to lithium ion …and in order to avoid a Semi-coductor type of supply chain crisis which the automotive sector is facing for the last 2 years and we are yet to come out of it…

Lithium Werks is an existing full fledged Chinese company manufacturing Cobalt free Lithium Iron phosphate (LFP) battery. LFP is fast gaining as one of the leading cell chemistries due to its cobalt and nickel free batteries, low cost and longer life compared to NMC (nickel, manganese and cobalt).
Reliance seems to have acquired the Chinese company (goes without saying that the acquisition would be the entire business including the management team and employees)
The combination of Lithium Werks with Reliance’s recently announced acquisition of Faradion Limited would make sense for manufacturing the entire portfolio of batteries in India, It would strengthen Reliance’s technology portfolio and provides it access to one of the world’s leading portfolio of patents and a management team with vast experience of innovation in cell chemistry, custom modules, packing, and building large scale battery manufacturing facility,
Should be big for Network18. Broadcasting rights are lucrative.
