Loved this conversation with @basumallick
He talks about starting with ₹5K, his early ValuePickr days, and how his approach evolved from pure value to a mix of fundamentals, technicals, and quants.
10/10, highly recommend.
McKinsey is rapidly deploying thousands of AI agents. Those bots now assist consultants in building PowerPoint decks, taking notes and summing up interviews and research documents for clients. The most-used bot is one that helps employees write in a classic “McKinsey tone of voice”—language the firm describes as sharp, concise and clear. Another popular agent checks the logic of a consultant’s arguments, verifying the flow of reasoning makes sense…
The Ministry of Corporate Affairs announces the creation of a new integrated website for IEPFA, enabling the return of unclaimed shares to rightful owners as soon as possible. This is a commendable initiative by the government. Note: Not sure where to post it, hence posting it here.
I recently came across a 2014 Motilal Oswal case study on 100-baggers. It discusses the key characteristics of 47 companies that delivered 100x returns between 2009 and 2014
100X - Motilal Oswal.pdf (1.2 MB)
With due respect to MOTILAL OSWAL, it seems that, they are very good in retrospective studies while predicting poor for future scenarios.
During 2015, there was a report on TechM to buy the stock at 2800 with target of 3300, and after that, there was a poor quarter reported by TechM, which resulted in 30% collapse in its share price, post split and bonus. In fact, Bonus and Split was a trap for retail investors and many investors were off guard and might have suffered substantial loss.
TechM stock took almost 3+ years to come back to their Recommended Price.
I was also an investor in TechM at that time and was doubtful about the future of TechM after lot of small acquisitions done by the Management at that time. I was thinking that, those acquisitions might reduce TechM margins and eventually OPM reduced from 17% to 13%.
After that, I hardly take such reports seriously as those are as good as our own analysis.
But having said this, their Retrospective studies are very good and occasionally of reasonable quality.
Motilal Is a bunch of shrewd research house. Take example of Senco Gold, last year Motilal gave a target of 750 after 4th Q results stock shoen losses due to custom duty cut, stock dipped to 235, Q425 they shown excellent quarter with upped guidence however target revised down to 450.![]()

Kalyan Jewell is operated by Motilal, i could sense that in Jan when stock crossed 700 levels, as an early investor at 120, it was a fortune, i exited in full later to discover the collusion and nexus between promotor and brokerage.
I fully agree with your observations. There are many more such cases in the past!!!
Very surprising that, Authorities are glad to give their Name to one of the Metro stations on western suburbs of Mumbai - Malad West - and passengers being influenced by such names and their Ads!!! I look at all brokerage reports with doubt.
The effect of AI is visible in the US jobs data:
I had dinner with the CEO of a tech company last week. He said, “We just cut almost 20% of our workers, and chances are we’re going to be doing it again in the next year or two. There are a lot of efficiencies we are getting with AI. At the same time, my daughter is in college and she’s looking for a job. She’s trying to avoid tech because she sees what I’m doing. I’m not sure what her classmates are going to do for jobs in a few years.”
Though it is not an article, it contains useful information about an unlisted company and answers a few questions.
It is not a recommendation, and I am invested in the unlisted stock.
This is a summarised version of Vinod Khosla’s paper on ‘AI: Dystopia or Utopia’. This paper discusses on how the world might look in near future. With free medical professional to efficient farm workers. The author predicts that 80% of all current jobs will be replaced by AI. It is an interesting read.
Using Hinglish:
Great piece of learning for technical, and finding multi bagger stocks / path to entry. Video is inspired from the book of Mark Minervini.
If this video is posted somewhere which I am unsure, please do not delete as it is very knowledgeable.
Some key summary which I have noted for easiness:
Summary:
- See chart on Monthly Time frame, there the candle were consolidating on 10 Moving Average.
- Look for Trend. Mark its High and Low.
- Look for the quality of the candles when it is moving up and also at breakout.
- Apply Moving Average after this. (10 - black, 20 Blue , 50 - green). Colour as per your choices.
- Price should be almost above or just touching the 10 Moving Average. Until now it is everything on Monthly time frame. And here you must notice it is consolidating for 6-10 months. Aur yaha pe ek range ke uppar aa chuka ho means pichle bottom ki range pe.
- Now switch to Daily time frame.
- You could have added stock at 200 Moving Average or below it.
If stock chal chuka hain thoda aur uppr, aur 10 MA ke pass nhi aa rha hain Monthly time frame pe thoda uppar hain.
- then switch to weekly time frame, here it must be consolidating in around 10 to 20 Moving Average range. And here look for proper solid candles will appear.
- Final Buying criteria - On Daily timeframe candles should come around or below 50 Moving Average.
all said and done, if one wants to take a finfirm analysts data seriously…collect their calls, see how much of it is true; if it’s more than 50% right, it’s better than a coin toss for a stock. for an investor, it’s only 1 direction, up, that we are interested in.
say 10 stocks reccos, only 3 make it, would you trust the firm?
this is a fantastic read about a little known but extremely successful silicon valley investor
