Recently I read an interview of a brokerage house. He told the total number of demat account in india around 2 crore, but the number of unique and active account is only around 10 lakhs. I was surprised to hear this. Now lets dig further. Even in this 10 lakh, I guess most of them are traders. I was curious to know how many of them are investors ( with at least basic understanding various ratio’s etc). What do you guys think is that number?. Do we have at least 1 lakh investors?

Number is too low that is sure and there lies the opportunity as equity cult is yet to develop in india. Low interest, low inflation and rising per capita over next two decades is expected to force poeple to buy more equity.
