US Stocks Investing through Dhan Broker

:united_states: Dhan Broker has this US Stocks investing feature since a while, so finally I thought to give it a try, and here’s my experience,

I wanted to test the whole process and charges, hence I started with a nominal amount of INR 5,000/-

The Deposit Process:

So on 29th September 2026, I initiated the funds transfer of INR 5000/- to Dhan US Stocks account, as these funds are seperate from your normal demat account funds. Then the funds were deposited by 1st October 2026, that’s T+2 days was the time taken (which I would have preferred if was quicker, but do understand the LRS process takes time)

So for a INR 5000/- deposit I actually received USD 50.18 in my Dhan US Account.
[The Market Exchange Rate was around 95.90, while Dhan was considering 96.81 + other charges & taxes]

Hence if according to the market exchange rate, 50.18x95.90 = 4812/- INR was only deposited, that’s a 3.75% haircut on deposit that costed me!

So basically my INR 5000/- fetched me USD worth INR 4812/- (-3.75%) in my account

The Stocks Purchased:

Now I just split the $50.18 into MSTR & SOXQ (As I wanted to have the exposure in BTC and Semiconductor Stocks)

Hence placed order for $25 for MSTR which attracted a $0.07 Charges & same for SOXQ.

Hence my net Investment made in terms of INR was 4775/-

Hence Finally my investment of INR 5000/- enabled me to make a investment worth INR 4775/- (-4.5%) or $50 in 2 US Stocks, Considering the Funds Deposit & Buy Side Brokerage (Sell side brokerage will be additional approx $0.14 for both stocks combined)

So basically my cost of making the Investment turned out to be 4.5%

[Will try to updte when I Sell it and Withdraw]

What are your views on this? Is this a fair price?

How has your experience been with other Apps like, Vested, IND Money and others been?

Thanks for sharing this..I also wanted to invest..but initial 4.5% investment looks pretty expensive…It would be great if other platform members also share their view on same

It is bit more than fair price, IMO. I’ve been receiving funds in USD for around 3.5%. Here we are sending them, though.

When there is more competition in this field (USA investments), we might see better conversion rate. Zerodha is about to launch the beta (of investing in USA) anytime in the near future. Groww has started rolling out in phased manner. Ref: USA stocks in Groww Probably, in 2027, we’d get better clarify on conversion and what works cheaper.

I am not aware if this is a fair price. Is there a holding charge and annual fee from the platform?

No nothing like a AMC or something,

They basically charge at,

  1. When you deposit money
  2. Brokerage on BUY & SELL

That’s it.

Not sure how fund transfer works here in these new services offered by Dhan or Upstox. As far as I know, forex transfers are good if you transfer a good amount of money (above 50k INR), in case there is a flat fee option.

Fund transfer is cheaper with Paasa/IBKR, if you use FXRetail platform (through BHIM) which offers live USD rate with only 0.2 paisa markup for many banks. Also AU SFB offers zero markup for forex on their new Digital Savings Bank account.

You can check out the details of actual broker Dhan has partnered up with, login and find out how to send money directly there. If the fund transfer is directly handled by Dhan, I don’t see much option.

Yes I am checking PAASA as well, it seemed to be a good option, although it has a little higher brokerage, but worth the services and the accessibility to many more global markets.

UPDATE:

There is $1 charge on deposit if the amt is below $100, hence considering that the amount usually will be above $100 atleast, we won’t incur that charge.

Hence,

With Market Exchange rate being 96.33/-

So in this scenario, my payment of INR 50,000/- should be fetching me $514.06 or INR 49,519/- (-0.96%) in my account.

Which is a significant drop from haircut of - 3.75% charged earlier due to small deposit amt.

Now on top of this only the brokerage charges will be applicable.

Which when I tried to do a rough calculation considering I am just taking 1 Trade of Buy & Sell using the whole account balance, came upto Approx. $3.20 on the $514.06, that’s nearly 0.62% which is nearly the same as earlier mentioned.

Making my estimated cost of investment to be 1.5% only, considering investment is greater than $100.

This is much better and more feesable. Although their Forex Markup of almost 0.76/- can be reduced to offer a better cost of investment.

And if this is the scenario with the investment routing through GIFT CITY would make the Taxation and other procedures convenient as well.
