Journalytic - an awesome tool to improve investment journey and get over behavioral biases

Hi All,
As part of investment journey, multiple times i tried journaling only to realize that my notes were all over the place - written on paper, word/excel file in laptop, emails, google sheets, bookmarks and more. It was becoming a challenge to keep track of everything, make sense out of it or do any kind of reflection on my mistakes in a cohesive way. After struggling for more than 1 year and trying out different online general purpose journaling Apps, I recently came across one that I was searching for some time now -

Introducing Journalytic (https://journalytic.com/) - a super awesome tool made specifically for investors and by investors. It has so many useful features that help improve our investing journey. A single place to:

  1. Capture all your learnings, investment ideas, investment thesis, decisions, self predictions, reminders and more.
  2. Run checklists on your decisions before investing (there is wide variety to chose from or you can build your own)
  3. Run analytics and gain insights on your ideas, thought process, accuracy rate of your decisions and predictions and more
  4. Get over various behavioral biases by tracking decisions over time, understand the consequences of your decisions (or opportunity cost of missed opportunities), your mistakes etc.
  5. Enter into “self contracts”
  6. Close feedback loop on your entire thought process

and more…hard to describe all the features, best to explore it yourself!

Built by value investor Jake Taylor and his colleagues (Farnam Street Investments), this is free to use for retail investors. While it is still in beta, the current version is great to use.

To get a full overview on all the available features, refer below youtube links:
Short 12 video for quick overview:

Long 60+ min video with full explanation and context on how to use it:

I have used it over last 3 days and completely sold on it. It also has data on Indian Stocks, so the charts shown in demo video with overlay of thought process and individual buy/sell decisions will also work for us.

Thats it folks! hope more people find the tool useful to improve their investing journey and become better investors!

Disclaimer: I have no commercial interest in sharing these details, the tool is free for everyone who signs up. I am in no way connected with Farnam Street Investments or any other developers. Have shared the details in good faith. Happy learning and Investing!

Thanks, seems a lot of things can be done. Can you share your journey on it?

I discovered this app on 2nd Jan 2025 and thought would use it for 4-6 weeks before sharing with others. However given the breadth of features available I felt I may not be able to explore all of them in such short time.

Hence I thought it would be best not to hold this back and share with wider audience so that everyone can try it out and we can learn from each other on what works and what does not. Also sharing it here and some other finance related groups sub-consciously creates a “self contract” for me on ensuring I use it on an on-going basis. Hope that explains my rationale of sharing it early. Will share my learnings over time.

Thank you for sharing this. It looks good and I’m going to give it a try. I reviewed their TnC and Privacy policy and they sell the user information and data with 3rd parties. Fortunately, they also provide an opt-out from the sale of this data. You need to write to them explicitly opting out of the data sale. I recommend users do so

We currently do not sell or share any personal information with third parties, and we have no plans to do so. Its good that they have mentioned on email that do not sell any data nor have any intention to do so and that they will update their privacy policy to reflect that. Now need to check after few weeks if they have followed through on that and updated their privacy policy!
