Achievv Portfolio Tracker

Hello ValuePickrs,

I’ve been a long-time reader of this forum and have learned immensely from the collective wisdom here. Like many of you, my primary tool for tracking my portfolio has been a meticulously maintained (and often frustratingly complex) Excel spreadsheet.

As my investments have grown across different brokers, with SIPs, dividends, lumpsum investments, and trades, keeping that spreadsheet accurate has become a real chore. Calculating a true XIRR that accounts for all cash flows feels like a mini-project every single time. The manual data entry is tedious and error-prone, and I often wonder if my performance calculations are truly accurate.

To solve this problem for myself (and hopefully for others), I’ve started developing a simple, private, and secure web application designed to automate this process. The goal isn’t to be another feature-bloated platform, but to do one thing exceptionally well: provide a clear, accurate, and automated view of your investment performance, with a strong focus on metrics like XIRR.

I’m not here to promote anything, but to learn from you all. To make sure I’m building something genuinely useful, I would be incredibly grateful for your insights on a few questions:

  1. What are your biggest frustrations with tracking your portfolio’s performance today? Is it the time it takes, the complexity, or something else?
  2. What do you find most difficult about calculating your XIRR accurately? (e.g., handling dividends, SIPs, partial sales, etc.)
  3. Beyond XIRR, what are the one or two key metrics you wish you could see easily?
  4. If you could wave a magic wand, what would your ideal portfolio tracker do for you that it doesn’t do today?

Any thoughts, rants, or wish-list features you’d be willing to share would be immensely valuable.

Thanks for your time and insights!

The XIRR needs to be benchmarked against something. Otherwise it’s just an arbitrary numbr.

Some benchmarks I use in my Google spreadsheet

  1. NIFTY 50
  2. NIFTY 500
  3. S&P 500 - Including the gains (or rare loses) due to USDINR exchange rate.

Like you said, it is a chore to maintain this spreadsheet. I would be willing to pay ₹2000-3000/year to use a simple software that tracks XIRR with benchmarks.

Wow, thank you so much for this detailed and insightful reply. This is exactly the kind of feedback I was hoping for.

An XIRR number in a vacuum is just a number; its real value comes from benchmarking against relevant indices like the NIFTY 50 or S&P 500. That context is everything.

Your point about tracking the S&P 500’s performance in INR is brilliant. That’s a perfect example of the kind of nuanced calculation that becomes a real chore in a spreadsheet but is critical for getting a true picture of your returns.

It’s really encouraging to hear that this is a problem you’d be willing to pay to solve. It gives me a lot of clarity on what’s truly important. I will implement this features in the web app. Thanks a lot :slightly_smiling_face:

There are insurance policies which start giving monthly payouts, also people do SWPs.
Would this app automatically fetch these credit amounts too?
How would you get all the data of all demats (Typical individuals atleast have 2-3 accounts)

Thank you for these excellent questions.

Here’s a clear breakdown of what our app does today and where we are headed based on your great suggestions:

1. On Automatic Payout/Credit Fetching:

Your request for this kind of automatic data fetching is a fantastic feature suggestion and aligns perfectly with our vision for a more automated, hands-off tracking experience. i will implement it in upcoming updates.

2. On Managing Multiple Demat Accounts:

The app is absolutely designed to handle data from multiple demat accounts. Our current capability allows you to import and consolidate holding or transaction files (like CSVs or Excel sheets) from all your different brokers. The system processes these files and presents all your investments in a single, unified view.

Our top priority is building secure, direct connections to your brokerage and bank accounts. This will enable the automatic data fetching as you mentioned. i have in my pipeline which will be implemented.

Currently the web app is under development. Please fell free to provide your suggestion i will implement in upcoming updates.
