It was really nice talking with everyone today. Here is a short list of things that were discussed. Please add things that I might have missed.

Net working capital bargains (famously known as net nets)

  • Market cap < 0.66*(Net working capital)
  • Buy a basket and sell if price returns > 50% or holding period is 2 years (whichever happens first)
  • Screen for these at times of market stress; Helps improve IRR returns

Global stocks discussed: Fairfax India Holdings (alternative to nifty; trading at steep discount to its NAV)
Stocks discussed: Vaibhav global (more as a core portfolio stock)
Potential value bets: Eclerx, Expleo Geo, NIIT
Funds discussed: Fundsmith (Coffee can for the globe, link)
Long term value migration:

  • Industries of the Future (innovation coming from Eastern European countries such as Estonia, Lithuania, Latvia). Example is Transferwise which was founded by Estonians. Link to book
  • Is IT migration happening from India to Spain and Eastern Europe? How do we verify this?

For those looking at eClerx, here is my not so old research report. I still have to put in 2020 results and update it. Will do that soon as well.eClerx Services.pdf (460.5 KB)

Hi all,

For those just starting out and/or looking to cover some literature on investing, here is a list of books that I would recommend:

  1. The Intelligent Investor by Benjamin Graham
  2. Security Analysis by Benjamin Graham and David Dodd
  3. The Interpretation of Financial Statements by Benjamin Graham
  4. The Snowball by Alice Schroeder
  5. Stocks to Riches by Parag Parikh (Important Behavioral Concepts here)
  6. One Up on Wall Street by Peter Lynch
  7. Technical Analysis of the Financial Markets by John Murphy
  8. Active Value Investing by Vitaliy Katsenelsson
  9. The Most Important Thing (Illuminated) by Howard Marks
  10. Common Stocks and Uncommon Profits by Philip Fisher
  11. Margin of Safety by Seth Klarman
  12. The Warren Buffett Way by Robert Hagstrom
  13. Mosiac by Mohnish Pabrai
  14. The Dhandho Investor by Mohnish Pabrai
  15. Valuation: Measuring and Managing the Value of Companies by McKinsey
  16. Latticework by Robert Hagstrom
  17. Theory of Investment Value by John Burr Williams

This list is by no means exhaustive and will be ever expanding. I would also ask others to contribute to this list to make it more lucrative for everyone here. Thanks and Happy Investing!
