Hi everyone,
Over the past few months, I’ve been leveraging ChatGPT (GPT-4o) (Chatgpt Plus subscription)as an assistant in my investing journey — and I must say, it has significantly amplified the efficiency, depth, and structure of my research workflow.
I wanted to share a few practical examples of how it’s been useful — not as a stock tipper, but as a research companion who helps me structure my thoughts, dig deeper, and compare companies across multiple dimensions.
Example Use Cases:
1. Deep-Dive Analysis on Small & Midcap Companies: I’ve used ChatGPT to create detailed reports on companies like Intellect Design Arena, Tanla Platforms, and Apollo Micro Systems. These reports included:
- Segment-wise revenue & profit analysis
- Governance scorecards
- Innovation initiatives & R&D spend
- Comparative peer analysis in tabular format
➤ “Helped me parse 3 annual reports and 2 investor presentations into a 20-page actionable report.”
2. Investment Thesis Builder: For lesser-known IPOs like Identixweb Limited, I asked:
“Break up segment revenue, identify use of IPO proceeds, and benchmark against Shopify app competitors globally.”
Within minutes, I had TAM estimates, revenue of peer Shopify developers, and even risks from concentration in Indian markets. It helped me frame a thesis with red flags clearly outlined.
3. Comparative Tools: Asked:
“Compare Rategain with Amadeus. Who is better positioned for the AI era?”
Got back:
- Side-by-side breakdown of revenue sources, client retention, AI initiatives
- Assessment of scalability in SaaS vs legacy model
- Moat analysis across travel-tech ecosystem
4. Macro-Industry Support: When I asked:
“Will Indian chemical exporters benefit from US tariffs on China?”
It returned:
- 2024 US import data of organic/phenol chemicals from China
- Sub-category breakdowns
- List of Indian producers with mapped products to those US imports
5. Visual & Tabular Summarization: It often turns 200+ page ARs into:
- Key financial trend charts
- Line-by-line P&L YoY / QoQ bridge
- Expense % mapping to Total Cost
➤ “Showed which line item caused disproportionate margin dip in Q4 vs Q3”
6. Seamless Q&A Across Verticals: From asking:
- “What is NIM in banking?”
- “How is Groww outperforming Zerodha?”
- “Compare Hariom Pipes with APL Apollo, margins, capacity, ROCE trajectory”
How I Use It:
- Feed PDFs or ask questions directly
- Ask iterative, context-linked queries (like a research analyst would)
- Save outputs as Excel/PDF for team use or reference
This tool doesn’t replace my judgment, but it accelerates first-level research, saves hours of Excel work, and ensures I’m not missing data buried in footnotes or investor decks.
I am posting some interactions that I have done with Chatgpt for two topics.
Regards,
Akshat
