Gold should only be a hedge against volatility and not a replacement of your fixed income portfolio

Excellent post on leveraging the different GenAI tools for equity research and what to use under which scenario.

Note: All the tools are costly so recommend folks to undergo Prompt Engineering training to understand how to leverage maximum benefits. Build your own prompt library for sectoral deep dives, which can be leveraged for the future.

Based on my usage and understanding, this is my perspective on the four AI tools—purely from an equity research standpoint. If anyone has had a different experience, I would welcome your insights.

When evaluating advanced AI tools for equity research, it is helpful to approach the current landscape with a practical mindset:

ChatGPT GPT-01 Pro stands out as the most versatile option. When your project relies more on reasoning and less on the latest data, ChatGPT Pro proves particularly valuable. For instance, if you need an AI to read multiple documents, synthesize information, triangulate data points across sources, or understand how U.S. banks and financial institutions have evolved over the past century—drawing key lessons for Indian banks and sub-prime-focused segments—then ChatGPT GPT-01 Pro is the preferred choice.

NotebookLM functions more like a highly specialized research assistant. It excels at organizing and summarizing materials you provide, with accurate source referencing. This makes it ideal for tasks that are heavily reliant on your own data sources. For example, if you intend to ask questions based purely on the past five years of annual reports, earnings call transcripts, and presentations, NotebookLM is the appropriate tool.

Grok serves as a fast, real-time conversationalist. It is particularly useful for obtaining quick updates or insights from social media platforms. However, it is less effective for intensive analytical tasks that require deeper thinking and structured analysis. For example, if you need to summarize Investec’s latest view as reported in the media, Grok is a suitable option.

Gemini 2.5 Pro is emerging as a strong competitor, especially due to its ability to access live data and its seamless integration with Google’s tools. If your analysis depends more on the latest news, YouTube videos, or requires information from the Google ecosystem, Gemini 2.5 Pro is the recommended choice.

Bottom Line:
In real-world scenarios, using these tools in combination can be highly effective. However, if you must choose a single tool for equity research at this time, ChatGPT GPT-01 Pro holds a distinct advantage due to its advanced reasoning capabilities, robust project management framework, and flexibility in analytical tasks—making it the most powerful choice for comprehensive, high-level research and modeling.
