After selling my entire holding in November 2025 at around ₹41, at a small loss, I slowly started accumulating again from the ₹23-24 range in March 2026.
Since the lows of March 2026, I can actually see a decent turnaround - maybe not a spectacular one yet, but certainly a meaningful improvement. Sales are currently trailing around 15,000 units per month. Looking at the momentum, crossing 17,000-18,000 units per month does not look unrealistic with some more effort. If Ola can sustain volumes above 15,000 units, the automotive segment should ideally start generating some cash.
However, I personally believe the more important growth engine will be the battery cell business. With the BSI certification received today, I expect the rollout into some of their models fairly soon. For context, Ola received a similar approval for its 4680 cells in late 2024, and it took almost a full year to launch the first vehicle using those cells. I hope the timeline is shorter this time - ideally a few months, not another 12-month wait.
A very logical progression would be to launch the Ola Gig with LFP batteries, especially since Ola wants it to be an affordable scooter. Given the lower power-to-weight density of LFP batteries and the fact that outright performance may not be the priority, this seems like one of the best use cases. Demand for the Ola Gig should be healthy, thanks to the dramatic rise of quick commerce and food delivery. The new Delhi EV policy could also provide an additional tailwind.
If Ola can scale the Gig well, it could give the company some much-needed impetus - especially in terms of cash flow. That, in turn, could help fund the launch of more advanced Roadster models and scooters in the months ahead. The good thing is that much of the R&D now seems to be largely complete. They may simply be waiting for the right opportunity to launch.
A small bonus point: in 2024-25, whatever Ola projected felt like dreams, assumptions, and big promises. Most people, including me, looked at those claims with skepticism. Fast forward to today, and they have actually shown that they can execute. They delivered the 4680 NMC cell, and now they have the 46100 LFP cell as well.
That is not a small achievement. As far as I know, they are the first and only company in India to make this possible at this level. The next big question is execution: how quickly can they commercialise it, scale it, and convert this technology edge into actual business performance?
