My Portfolio - Ashok

Brother I understand what you are trying to say, but the thing is at 10k i would have already made 5x of my money but he would have been only made 2x of his money. Suppose if then market corrected and the stock settle at 7k he just made 30% in five year but i have made 3x in five year, i can still hold it but the person who held it for 5 year will be thinking he cant wait to let it go lower than 5000. basically emotion handle krna bhut mushkil hota hai real world me. if you have really low average then you can hold for longer time but if you are higher avg then seeing it red after year would be hurtfull

Completely agree, MoS is related to emotional aspect more rather than financial!

Did not want to take too much of someone elseā€™s portfolio threadā€¦but as you asked and as @akash_das explained nicely, what I think isā€¦buy price anchoring is more emotional and so is MoSā€¦what matters is your net worth on any particular day and that depends on only one factor which is current market priceā€¦I understand the cagr and returns of someone who bought same stock at 100 rs is more than someone who bought at 500 rs with cmp at 700 rsā€¦but thatā€™s only in universe of that particular stockā€¦what if the person who invested at 500 rs had done a 10x in same time frame on another stock and then bought this one? Point is one stock, cagr, returns from a stock are all small things in the overall universe of net worth and where the prime focus shoud beā€¦on cmp and only on worthiness of cmpā€¦whether you buy it or hold it or sell it or sell and rebuy something elseā€¦all that doesnā€™t matterā€¦ lastly buy price is important for some minor calculations at intermittent periods like individual stock cagr and expected future cagr etcā€¦ But itā€™s not of much value anymore rather than emotional, egoistic (for some), boasting (again for some) or mental block/restrictive (in case you would want to buy same stock at 500 rs the one you bought at 100 rs which goes on to 1000 plus etc)ā€¦
Because of all above experiences, I focus only on cmp and total current value progressā€¦ Hope I could explain to some extent my thought processā€¦

That is precisely the point of long term investing right? I will not let it go unless i see a fundamental change in the underlying business.

I will be happy if you happen to hold that. But just want to let you know how media and investment professional view chancges according to stock prices. I donā€™t know will you able o hold that or not. How will you determine fundamental value when all he media will be telling ab management aisa hai, is business me bacha nhi kuch.

For example take the example of tata motors: just it price increases everyone view changes, one year back no one want to look at it. Now even newbie tells me that tata motor is good fundamental stock.not want to argue on that.but just letting you know the caution.
Another example just came into my mind. Last year when I was doubling my investment everyone were telling reliance is must to have stock. Want to let you know then it price was 2300. I doubled my money by investing in other stocks. So just be aware concept of fundamental changes with price
