Great One Om.

Had been tracking Thermax for a year now. Did not get the confidence to invest, Am always circumspect as cash flow was exposed tp Exports on to SE Asian countries.

Obviously a big mistake.

CIL’s coal gasification projects in EPC contract model rather than plant operator model for better viability.

This means all the projects are to be funded by the Govt on EPC model ?

Any views from members here ?.

Yes. Operator assumes zero financial risk. Will be paid for O&M as per Contract.

So now query is who will be the operators. That may be better option.

Does Thermax, operate plants or is it just a EPC and Design Firm.

Jacksons Green gets First NTPC Order to set-up 4G Ethanol plant at its existing Thermal power plant with Carbon Capture from flue gas and Microbial fermentation

What is 4G Ethanol ?

1G Ethanol is produced from Sugar cane juice, molasses, Grains - Praj provides 1G technology

2G Ethanol - from Agri residues/ crop residues like paddy straw, wheat straw, Stubble - Praj provides the 2G technology

3G Ethanol - from Algae from waste water, sewage water, industrial waste by
advanced microbial fermentation method - Technology provider LanzaTech Inc

4G Ethanol - From flue gas mainly from existing thermal power plants emissions , other industrial emissions by advanced microbial fermentation method - Technology provider LanzaTech Inc

We already have 1G, 2G, 3G Ethanol plants operational plants in our country. 4G is the latest addition.
While Coal gasification with CCUS can be planned for new plants, NTPC is setting a trend that even with existing/ traditional thermal power plants , carbon emissions can be reduced to a great extent by adopting carbon capture technology and converting Carbon in to Ethanol by the help of green hydrogen. 4G Ethanol so produced can be utilised for the gasoline / petrol blending program by OMC’s. So , it is a win win situation.

This also paves the way for producing chemicals from coal.

From Coal to Chemical - CIL’s coal gasification projects- CIL to hold pre-bid meeting for 3 projects

Things seem to be moving very fast during Modi3.

India has taken up three surface coal gasification projects namely (1) Mahanadi Coal fields limited (MCL), (2) Eastern Coalfields Limited (ECL) and (3) Western Coalfields Limited (WCL)

The coal gasification project coming up in MCL is implemented through a Joint Venture of CIL and BHEL The Jt venture is known as BCGCL-
Bharat Coal Gasification and Chemicals Limited

The project coming up at ECL is being executed through a JV of CIL and GAIL (India) Limited,

The one at WCL is funded by Coal India itself
